District Chairman 2020 – 2021

Inner Wheel Club of

Welcome to the website of Inner Wheel, one of the largest women’s voluntary movements in the world, established in the early 20th century near Manchester. We are now to be found in over a hundred countries worldwide and have around 100,000 members. Here in the Midlands, in our District 6, we have almost 20 clubs and around 500 members.

In this very strange year, Inner Wheel continues to work, though not quite as usual!  I have the privilege of taking over as District Chairman for the year 2020/21 and look forward to a good and interesting year in post.  My choice of District charity for this year is perhaps not well known: The Sick Children’s Trust.  It accommodates parents while children are gravely ill at our main children’s hospitals, in many parts of England.

Together, as Inner Wheelers this year, we are discovering ways of running our clubs during lockdown, using a mixture of common sense and IT; many of us are also discovering new skills and making new friends.

New members usually join a club convenient to them and often find old friends there already. Each Club takes on some local and international charity work, within their framework of a year long programme of events for members.  This may contain anything from talks to bridge and fashion shows, with many chances to enjoy a meal together. The aim is to be pleasantly and usefully occupied in helping those who need a hand. We also welcome ideas for good causes which we could support.

Enquiries about membership, or the world of Inner wheel, are always welcome! Why not find out more?   Just read on…...

With all best wishes for your health and safety.  Margaret x

With the difficult times that we are in, normal Club meetings have been replaced by informal get togethers where social distancing rules can be complied with and Zoom Meetings are commonplace. Stratford upon Avon IW ladies recently enjoyed getting together for a catch up and some afternoon tea.

Atherstone IW members raised £2000 for a local scout group (1st Hartshill Scouts) by taking part in a  Dickens evening and holding various coffee mornings. The scout group were overwhelmed by the amount the Club managed to raise and are excited to be able to take the children on a day trip as a treat, as this year has been so awful for everyone.

Edgbaston Convention IW Club members took part in a visit to the Kidderminster Carpet Museum recently. They heard all about the history of carpets with demonstrations of original hand and mechanically operated looms.

After the visit, a socially distanced picnic was enjoyed on Hartlebury Common.

The Hands of Dorcas tailoring training project is an International Aid Trust project, our Distict international charity for this IW year.  An update on the work we are doing to support interntional projects and newsletters about the work of International Aid can be found by clicking the link below.

Our IIW 3-year Social Project in this country is Period Poverty - Dignity for Women and Girls. We are working closely with charities, schools, women's refuges,  and supermarkets to highight the issues.

District Chairman Margaret has selected The Sick Children's Trust as her charity.

The District 6 International Charity is the International Aid Trust - find out more on our International page.

The National President, Enid Law, has chosen Riding for the Disabled for her charity.

The International President, Dr Bina Vyas has chosen 'Lead the Change' as her theme for 2020-21
